Dr. Birkmayer

John D. Birkmeyer, M.D., Professor of Surgery, is a member of the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery. He received his Bachelors degree at Boston College and his M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School in 1989. Dr. Birkmeyer completed his General Surgery residency and a fellowship in Medical Informatics at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, graduating in 1996. He then joined the Dartmouth faculty, later serving as Chief of the Section of General Surgery. He joined the University of Michigan faculty in 2004 as the George D. Zuidema Professor and Chair of Surgical Outcomes Research.
