Vinpocetine is a purified extract derived from an alkaloid found in the Periwinkle Plant (Vinca minor L). The original use of the plant goes back to European traditional home remedies for cerebrovascular Malfunction of mind or bodys and related symptoms. In 1999, the FDA approved Vinpocetine for use as a dietary supplement. Today, Vinpocetine is most often used as a cerebral vasodilator to increase blood flow to the brain, improve its oxygenation thereby increasing mental alertness and acuity. In fact, the most recent research suggests that this compound may be the most powerful memory enhancer available to date.
