Potential Health Benefits of Red Yeast Rice
Cholesterol Lowering Effect
More recent encouraging studies on Red yeast rice suggest that active compound present in red yeast rice seems to be a favorable compound that hinders the cholesterol production and helps to manage triglyceride levels. A latest study conducted on Red yeast rice suggests that administration of red yeast rice results in over all reduction in cholesterol levels, because the red yeast rice extract contains cholesterol lowering compounds statins. One of the statins is lovastatin which has also cholesterol limiting effects and studies showed that lovastatin inhibit the action of an enzyme HMG-CoA reductase which in turn limits the rate of cholesterol production. This cholesterol lowering effect of statins reduces the risk of heart related problems. [1, 2, 3]
Reduce Soreness
An anti-inflammatory action of red yeast rice has been demonstrated and it also has positive effects in reducing fatty streaks and avoids arterial damage. [4]
