An Introduction
Policosanol is a generic name of plant wax. Policosanol is a natural substance extracted from sugar cane and use as nutritional supplement. It is a waxy substance that made up of natural extract of eight unique long chain fatty alcohols. The most active or primary ingredient of it is octasanol while triacontanol and hexacosanol are also found in it. [1, 2]
Initially these extracts are obtained from sugar cane. [1, 3, 4] But further researches intensified that same quality of policosanol is extracted from beewax and certain other vegetables and plants (carnuba, candilla and rice bran). [1, 2]
