Chlorophyll
| Basics |
|
The word chlorophyll derived from the Greek word "chloros" (green) and "phyllon" (leaf), is the green coloring matter of plants. It is an important natural product, beneficial to humanity. The chlorophyll molecule bears a striking resemblance to hemoglobin, the red pigment in human blood.
Through a chemical process called photosynthesis, chlorophyll harnesses the sun’s energy to perform various life-promoting functions. By utilizing minerals from the soil, chlorophyll allows the plant to use the sun’s energy to make vitamins, fats, proteins and starches. These elements can be harvested for human consumption.
